I had the pleasure of visiting the The Spa Intercontinental at 225 Front Street and I have to say, what an amazing experience!
Arriving on the third floor, I was immediately greeted by the friendly front desk staff. From there I was given a key to my locker (filled with a comfy robe and towel), sandals and given instructions on what to do and where to meet after I was ready.
For someone like myself that doesn't go to spas very often, the staff at the Intercontinental made me feel at home. This zen-like spa has a certain elegant simplicity that makes you feel like a celebrity. However, don't expect any pretension or attitude. The team is warm, knowlegeable and certainly know how to take care of someone looking to be pampered!
After my initial consultation with the spa director, I filled out the standard form and decided what products would best suit my needs, I was introduced to my esthetician/massage therapist Marjo. She went over the spa's signature "Key Senses" treatment with me to let me know what to expect and made sure I had all of my questions answered.
The treatment room was inviting, quiet and smelled fantastic! The holistic Key Senses treatment is 1.5 hours. For my customized therapy it included (but limited to, I was hardly aware of my surroundings at times) aromatherapy, heat therapy, scalp massage, essential oil massage, hot stone full body massage, facial, face massage and light therapy. Needless to say my body was like melted butter when it had finished and my skin felt absolutely wonderful!
After the treatment I was given my choice of tea (I picked Orchid Oolong) and relaxed in the solarium with Marjo, while enjoying an incredible view of the downtown core from the terrace. We discussed what she had discovered about me. Apparently I'm very tense. Not surprising with all of the exercise and travelling! She gave me great advice on how to let go, lose control, loosen up my muscles and clear my complexion. I was given even more hospitable service on my way out, as well as some samples of the products that were used on me.
If you are looking for a place to escape and lose all track of time, this is the kind of day retreat where it's possible to forget about it all. I suggest clearing your schedule because even though the treatment times are listed, they take care of you for much longer. I was there an extra hour before I even thought to check the time!
The naturally lit, 8000 square foot spa offers complimentary fitness facilitates, saline pool, Himalayan salt tub and a eucalyptus steam room. They also provide all of the little things you wouldn't want to bring yourself like shampoo, body lotions and hairdryers to all spa clients.
The spa Intercontinental offers a product line of vegan nail polish and other wonderful organic and bio-friendly cleansers and make up. Their face and body line "comfort zone" smells and feels great. I tried the "Active Pureness" moisturizer, mask and cleanser and I can definitely feel the quality and purity in these products.
I would absolutely recommend this spa whether you treating yourself to a little luxury or buying a gift card to spoil someone special.
