A Change Will Do You Good

change your fitness routineIt is actually quite surprising how reluctant people are to change their routines, myself included. If you find something that both works for you and is enjoyable that's great but I can promise you, it will eventually stop working.

Personally speaking, I started running about 5 years ago and it helped me to lose weight. I love running because it feels so free and liberating. I couldn't imagine ever doing anything else. I have always changed up my running routines in various ways, not to mention trying new activities here and there.
Recently I cut my run times in half and started using the stationary bike. The first thing I noticed was the amount I was huffing and sweating. It was challenging, like when I first started running. The second thing I noticed about a month later, was my body changing. My legs and butt were getting smaller but more defined and my abs are showing more. This is the result of changing it up. It works.

Sticking to the same routine gets old fast. If you realize one day that you are exercising out of a sense of obligation when you used to have fun, you are probably just bored. Creating challenges for yourself physically, strengthens yourself mentally. Trying new things and overcoming obstacles are necessary for learning and growth.

If your routine hasn't changed in months (or even years!) seriously consider throwing something new in there. Start out small by just adding 10 minutes of anything that's different on to the usual routine and let the results convince you what's best!
