I tried the P90X 15 minute Ab Ripper workout. (Thanks one of my clients giving me a copy:) I have been wanting to try this workout for ages, to see what everybody is raving about.
After having completed it I have to say, it's very challenging! I love the idea of a non fluffy exercise video that attracts intermediate to advanced exercisers.
Pros of the P90X Ab Ripper
-It's really hard!
-It definitely gives your abs a thorough workout.
-The instructions are clear and informative.
-The video is filmed with the perfect view. Not too close and not too far away. This can be a problem with some exercise videos. If you can't see what's going on and you don't have a live instructor to correct technique, it's not very helpful.
Cons of the P90X Ab Ripper
-It's really hard!
-A lot of the exercises are "old school." By this, I mean while they are very challenging they're also considered outdated to some fitness pros because ab exercises like sit ups and mid air bicycles put a lot of unnecessary strain on the lower back, hips and neck.
-15 minutes is a long time to focus on just your abs. If you find this to be the case, it can easily be corrected by doing what you can and taking breaks.
-I consider this DVD to be an advanced workout. Not just because the exercises are hard but because you need a great deal of body awareness and a strong injury-free body to participate.
My overall opinion is that this is a very worthwhile DVD. If you are looking to get a great core workout and need something more challenging than the typical basic crunch then this could be for you. However, I would advise anybody to take this routine at their own pace, take breaks and know your limitations.
